The 127th winner of the St Leger, held on Wednesday 10th September 1902 over the Old St Leger course on Town Moor, was Sceptre, a bay filly by Persimmon out of Ornament, owned by Mr R S Sievier. A field of 12 runners contested the race, although there were 228 subscriptions of 25 sovereigns each, which was worth 5700 sovereigns. The value to the winner was £5,275.
